Several years ago I preached on the Servant Songs of Isaiah for our Lenten Midweek Services. We had four Wednesdays, each week covering each of the Servant Songs in sequence.

THE FIRST SERVANT SONG

BEHOLD, MY CHOSEN SERVANT

Behold, my chosen servant, The One Whom I uphold—

My Spirit rests upon Him, As prophesied of old.

He grants the nations justice, Without a cry or shout.

The bruised reed is not broken, The wick is not snuffed out.

He will not be discouraged But filled with holy mirth,

He faithfully brings justice to nations of the earth.

Proclaiming it to coastlands That wait upon His law,

He gives breath to the people Who walk in holy awe.

/

In righteousness I called you and take you by the hand,

I give you as my promise to all within the land,

A light unto the nations That all the blind may see,

To rescue from death’s prison and set the captive free.

I AM the Lord, your Savior, I AM the Lord alone,

I share no other glory with idols carved from stone.

The former things have vanished, the new things I declare

See, now they spring before you, with Him my glory share.
